Privacy Notice

Ever get the heebie geebies about what companies are doing with your data? Me too.

So I don’t collect any personal data where I don’t need it and I’m completely transparent about what I do with when I do.

  • Lorna Gell Coaching is the controller for the purposes of this privacy policy and all personal data handed over in the course of use of its services.

    Basically no one else has control of your data - just us - and we won’t ever sell it to anyone or give it away to take advantage of you.

  • There are 4 ways we’ll obtain personal information from you:

    1. You sign up to our mailing list: If you do this we will only retain your name and email address in order to contact you. We rely on your consent for this, and you’ll always have the option to unsubscribe and withdraw that consent.

    2. You make an enquiry: If you do this we’ll normally need your name and contact details so that we can get back to you. We rely on legitimate interests for this. Once we’ve handled your enquiry, we’ll delete your personal data unless you sign up to our mailing list or choose to work with us.

    3. You buy one of our services: If you do this, we’ll often need your name, address, and payment details. We rely on legitimate interests for this, too, as well as complying with a legal requirement (tax). We have an obligation to keep financial records to 7 years, and may need to pass the details over to our accountant. However, once we’ve finished working together we’ll delete any of your personal data that we don’t legally have to retain. We might ask you for a review that we can put on this site, but that’d only be with your consent.

    4. You share information with us whilst coaching: check out the section below for detail on that.

    If you contact us via Facebook or LinkedIn or Twitter, we’ll process your information in line with 2 above. However we’d suggest you read their privacy policies too.

  • When coaching, you may discuss personal matters that are confidential and sensitive. Some data is considered “special category data” under data protection laws (Article 9 GDPR). This includes:

    • personal data revealing racial or ethnic origin;

    • personal data revealing political opinions;

    • personal data revealing religious or philosophical beliefs;

    • personal data revealing trade union membership;

    • genetic data;

    • biometric data (where used for identification purposes);

    • data concerning health;

    • data concerning a person’s sex life; and

    • data concerning a person’s sexual orientation.

    Most of this information will just be spoken - it won’t be written down anywhere unless it’s absolutely necessary.

    Before we start a coaching relationship, we’ll make sure you’re happy for us to take notes about special category data - it’s often necessary to dive into some of the above for a full coaching experience and for us to give you the best service we can, we like to take notes so that we can work well with you over a period of time. When we do take notes, the information will be processed under Article 9(a) of the GDPR - your explicit consent, which you’ll sign before we start. This means that you can withdraw the consent at any time, at which point we’d destroy any notes we have.

    We won’t store any of this information electronically, and will never ever share it with anyone. For extra safety we also keep them in a locked draw. Once we’ve finished working with you, we’ll use a professional shredding company to securely, and confidentially, destroy the notes.

    We’ll never store or take copies of any worksheets or journaling that you do.

    We may have email/text/WhatsApp conversations with some clients. If you choose to share special category data with us via these channels, we’ll process this in the same way, but we suggest you familiarise yourself with the relevant organisation’s privacy policy for more information.

  • We use the following 3rd party suppliers to collect, store and process your data:

    Squarespace: That’s the website you’re on right now and some forms are handled by them, mainly the contact us feature.

    Notion: This is a database with a form function on the front. This holds most of the data collected via forms.

    Mailerlite: this is our email service provider so if you join the mailing list this is where your data will go. We try to use mailerlite forms where possible to get your data into this system.

    10 to 8: this is our scheduling software to enable you to book coaching time. This sends both you and us an email with the details of our calls.

    Zapier: If we can’t use a mailerlite form because we collect your email consent in a different form, we use zapier to automatically add your details to the mailing list.

    Please note that we’ll probably need you to verify your identity before responding to such requests.

    If at any point you want to complain, please contact us at lorna@lornagell.com in the first instance. However you always have the option to contact the Information Commissioner’s Office instead/as well as (www.ico.org.uk). • We might update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We’ll notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.

    We will let you know via email and/or a prominent notice on this website, prior to the change becoming effective and update the "effective date" at the top of this Privacy Policy.

    You can, of course, review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes, if you’re into that sort of thing. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
