Ritual isn’t just for the big moments
We throw weddings. We hold funerals. We light birthday candles and sing.
But somewhere along the way, ceremony got boxed in-reserved only for the milestones, the church services, the big dramatic shifts.
A few weeks ago, I attended a workshop to become a ceremonialist. It was beautiful. We explored how to mark the step into motherhood with something more meaningful than a baby shower, and how to welcome new life into the world with blessing ceremonies. But the biggest shift for me wasn’t about the big events.
We made a little bag of bath salts during the workshop. Nothing fancy-just rose petals, epsom salt and a touch of intention. And when I got home, I made sure to actually use it within the week.
That bath changed something in me.
It reminded me that the smallest things deserve ceremony. That ritual isn’t a reward for surviving something huge-it can be a way to notice your own life as it’s happening. And that self-care isn’t just taking a bath… but also, actually, sometimes it is.
It’s not about grand gestures. It’s about meaning. And when you bring meaning into the everyday, the everyday starts to feel a little more sacred.
